The STEM world has never had so much funding and so many tools of discovery at their disposal. The number of investigators, new disciplines, facilities, and specialized equipment far exceeds the size of the research enterprise 25 years ago. And yet, the pace of breakthrough discoveries during that period is nearly inverseley propotional to the growth in capacity. The entire research pipeline has forsaken the values of basic research for diminishing Return on Investment metrics. In doing so, pathways to study and advance theoretical and applied sciences have narrowed to a close, further exacerbating the problem.
Collaboratory Science rejects the pursuit of iterative studies that whisper at the frontier of science. Our approach represents a new pathway into discovery and applied sciences thorugh an inclusive model that values participation as a primary driver of innovation. Further, we welcome diverse, divergent, and even heretical ideas that push against consensus-situated facts.
